This project has recieved support from the canadian council of the arts.

A guy gets an 65000$ (that's right: O_O !). to send a banana into space!
while "freaky" people like me fall into "noman's land categories" because their stuff insn't "artsy" enough...
(is a comic book a visual form of art or is it literature? then again who cares, right? comic book are for kids...)

You can get 65 000 dollars to send a banana into space
while freaky boy here gets 0.00$ for
trying to produce music, video games, comics
and getting young people interested in doing something else besides
taking drugs, being bored, drinking booze, and shooting at other kids in school with semi-automatic weapons....

J'ai reçu une réponse un mois plus tard.11-14 2006

Dear Felix Quednau,

Thank you for your inquiry about Canada Council for the Arts programs of assistance for professional writers, more specifically in regard to writing comic books.

Allow me to explain that the Canada Council for the Arts' mandate is to foster and promote the arts in Canada through the provision of grants to professional Canadian artists and Canadian arts organizations.

In line with your inquiry, I wish to mention that the Writing and Publishing Section has a substantial list of Grant Programs. As such, the Grants for Professional Writers: Creative Writing is the Program which takes into consideration many different genres of writing. I therefore invite you to consult the following web link to determine your eligibility to this Program.

http://www.canadacouncil.ca/grants/writing/ri127227329682968750.htm

Please take note of the following ineligible genres of subject matter; writing cookbooks, bibliographies, guides, manuals, indexes, dictionaries, catalogues, books on personal growth, or reference or technical works.

The Canada Council for the arts has criteria of eligibility for each arts discipline, the following is criteria for writing and publishing; Applicants must be Canadian citizens or permanent residents of Canada. They must be recognized professional writers who have had:

·at least one book published by a professional publishing house; OR for fiction, a minimum of four texts of creative writing (e.g. short stories, excerpts from a novel) published on two separate occasions in literary magazines, recognized periodicals (including consumer magazines) or anthologies published by professional publishing houses; OR ·for poetry, a minimum of 10 published poems is required; OR for literary non-fiction, a minimum of 40 pages (10,000 words) of articles published in literary magazines, recognized periodicals or anthologies published by professional publishing houses.

Just to clarify, individuals who qualify as professional writers, can apply for Grants to Professional Writers, Creative Writing, but in regards to publishing these grants are not awarded to individuals, they are only applicable to professional publishing houses.

I wish to mention that most of the Council’s application forms are available to download directly from the web page for each grant program that the Canada Council for the Arts offers. On another note, the Council is now equipped with an online system entitled GO (Grants Online) for the majority of our application forms. It is also possible to request forms in paper back by contacting the Council’s information line at 1-800- 263-5588 or (613) 566-4414, ext. 5060.

I sincerely hope this is of assistance.

i recived a reply a month later.
you cna give it a try.
and since i haven'T pulblished any thing yet
that sort of cuts my chances just there

What category does an artists who does comics and is interested in helping young people tap inot their creativeity while developing one's environmental consciousnes and social responsibility fall into?

Yes! That right buddy! None of the above! WOO-HOO!!!!

well im not gona awaste 6 months building a portfolio to impress the council and have a 50 % chance that they might take a quick look at it. And then toss it aside.
I have more important things to do during those 6 months.
( reviewing the story, drawing character designs, building sculptures)
Ii'm a little frustrated at having to beg organisations for money.

That's why I set up the djaimox finacial support box.
So I can focus my energy on my artistic, ecolgical and social projects.
Think of it as the open violin case where you throw a few coins as you pass in front of a street musician.

parce qu'au bout du compte, j'aimerais faire ma part pour créer un monde meilleur

et je ne veux pas mapitoyer sur mon sort
en lançant des bananes dans l'espace au cout de 65000$ l'exemplaire..
Because in the end i want to do my share to make this world a better place.

I don't want to sit arround whine, and shoot bananas into space at 65000$ a pop....
